When you are walking down the street, and you pass by a house, as you walk by quickly, it may appear that the house it moving. But really, you are moving, and the house is the frame of reference. Or, the sidewalk is the frame of reference. But if someone rides by on a bike past you, you are their frame of reference. Since everything in the universe is moving, nothing can always be assumed as the frame of reference. No frame of reference is any more correct than another.

How do you find out the speed of something? You find out the starting point, the ending point, and the time it took for them to get there. For example, if you rode a mile on you bike and it took you one hour, you went 1 mile an hour. This is the formula for find out the speed of something. Speed=Distance/Time. Part 2, Constant Speed. Speed that does not change is called constant speed. Usually, we assume that if you were riding a bike, you had the same speed that whole hour you were riding. But what if you started out fast, and slowed down 10 minutes later. If you used the formula Speed=Distance/Time, however, will always give you the average speed. Velocity is speed in a certain direction. Why is this important? For example, pilots need to now what direction the other pilots are going at. So, instead of just reporting their speed to the control tower, the pilot would report their velocity. If you are rowing a boat down a stream at 10 mph, you are probably moving faster than 10 mph, because the river is moving with you. So, if the river is flowing at 5 mph, and you are going at 10 mph, then the combined velocity is 15 mph. You combine the velocity when the speeds are going in the came direction. Because if you are rowing against the river, you’re going to go slower.

If something is accelerating at 5m, each second it’s velocity increases by 5 seconds. If the velocity is decreasing, it means negative acceleration (deceleration). When a car is going up a hill, it decelerates because it is slowing down. Circular Motion is when something is not moving in a straight path. For example, someone riding their bike in a circle. They are constantly changing their velocity, and they are accelerating.
